Heading into Birmingham’s Chinatown for food is a real treat for me because I love freshly made Chinese food- especially satay. Until now, I haven’t had a favourite restaurant. But, since I found Minmin, that’s all changed.
My rookie error when looking for Chinese restaurants had been to head to those under the nose of the Hippodrome. Minmin is a little more tucked away (opposite the entrance to the Arcadian carpark) but that didn’t stop it being almost full.

From the moment that we walked in and received a genuine warm and friendly welcome, I knew we had made a good choice. The restaurant is very clean and first impressions were great. The menu is extensive and a little overwhelming for a first timer but help was at hand and the owner gave us good advice. All of the staff were very attentive and friendly. My daughter commented: “That lady was really nice to me.” And she absolutely was. As a parent, it means a lot when people put your children at ease and make them smile!
The food came out promptly and did not disappoint. We ordered a variety of dishes to share so that we got to try different things. Everyone’s favourite was the sweet and sour fish, which was very tasty. The spring rolls were also a big hit. We had plenty to eat for just over £30 for two adults and one child. For drinks, we went traditional and had green tea which was kindly topped up during the meal. The highlight for my daughter though was when the owner bought over a complementary ice cream topped with a kit kat. That put a huge smile on her face and ours, bringing a great end to the evening.
We will definitely be heading back to Minmin.
